Punch Voice Coils Perfectly!

Have you ever wondered why some of the hottest brands of speakers have perforated voice coil formers? Beneath the spider is a cavity where air is trapped during use, causing either pressure or vacuum depending on the direction of the cone. When the speaker is used at full power, the heat trapped can also deform the spider.

Even though the spider is porous, there is a measure of resistant physics that this air pressure/vacuum causes. This area must be vented to create the very best in sound quality and smooth response. In fact, we have discovered that nearly every speaker sounds better with a perforated former as the voice coil works faster and cooler. It is a fact that venting the voice coil former makes for a smoother, more natural sound.

P4 will punch a 1/4" hole with ease completely around the former, below the plane of the spider to cone area. The P8 will produce the same easy result punching a 1/8" hole in the former. One of the reasons that manufacturers don’t do this is the cost involved at the manufacturing level, the damaged product produced is overwhelming. However at the rebuilding level, it is easy and takes a minimal amount of time to produce a better product than the factory did. This is just one more product we have found to help you become more profitable in your recone center.
